New York: Sun and Moon Press, 1985. A bound copy of an early typescript for Paul Auster's New York Trilogy. The title page bears Auster's holograph presentation: "For Paul Lichter and Sarah Jones - / Their personal copy, / - with love - / Paul Auster / June 6, 1985." Numerous non-holograph notations throughout, the most interesting of which are two separate corrections that clearly show that the titles of the last two segments of the trilogy were originally swapped (the change is made both on the segment title pages and the table of contents).
Very likely this a copy that Auster had bound for himself prior to the publishing deal made with Sun and Moon Press, as there is no publisher's imprint or editorial markings; and interestingly the three sections of the trilogy are dated 1982, 1982-83, and 1983-84 respectively, showing that Auster completed the entire work--and had probably envisioned it as a single book--well prior to its publication as three separate volumes between 1985-86.
Very Good plus in a black snap binding, with clear Mylar covers. A presentation copy of an early corrected version of what is now generally regarded as Auster's masterpiece. In a black custom quarter-leather clamshell box.
