Glendale, CA: Allied Artists, 1954. Original pressbook for the 1954 film, "The Human Jungle," directed by Joseph M. Newman, written for the screen by Daniel Fuchs and William Sackheim, and starring Gary Merrill, Jan Sterling, and Regis Toomey. Shot in a documentary style, "The Human Jungle" tells the story of a new police captain (Gary Merrill) trying to clean up the slums, running afoul of mobsters, lawyers and newspapermen, all while trying to protect a witness (Jan Sterling) to the murder of one of her fellow "striptease dancers." The film represents an early attempt by Monogram Pictures to change it's "poverty row" image under a new studio name. 12 pages, saddle stitched, 12 x 18 inches, with one fold-out page, and a two-page promotional flyer, done in the style of a tabloid newspaper, is laid in. Very Good condition with several small closed tears, some light soiling and minor starting at the spine fold. Moderate horizontal fold crease at the center of the wrapper and pages, with minor splitting at the ends. Laid-in flyer has some minor fray at the outer page edges. An early transitional film in Allied Artists attempt to move toward more respectable "B" pictures.
