Pitfall

Los Angeles: United Artists, 1948. Original pressbook for the 1948 film, "Pitfall," directed by Andre de Toth, based on the 1947 novel by Jay Dratler. Written for the screen by Karl Kamb, and starring Dick Powell, Lizabeth Scott, Jane Wyatt, Byron Barr and Raymond Burr. An unfulfilled insurance agent (Dick Powell) begins an affair with the girlfriend (Lizabeth Scott) of an imprisoned thief (Byron Barr), who is goaded into a deadly showdown by a jealous investigator (Raymond Burr). 14 pages, saddle stitched, 11 x 17 inches. About Near Fine condition. Faint horizontal fold crease at the center of the wrapper and pages. Tiny bit of starting to the bottom hinge fold. Small diagonal crease to the bottom corner of the front wrapper. Light soiling to the rear wrapper. An important example of "the pervasive malaise of the American middle class as expressed in film noir," with Burr at his creepy best.

Selby (1984) 307. Silver, pp. 228-229. Spicer, p. 416.
