New York: Jonathan Cape and Harrison Smith, 1931. Second printing of the American edition. Basis for two important films: the first a silent in 1927 directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the second a key film noir in 1944 directed by John Brahm and starring Laird Cregar. Near Fine in an about Good example of the rare dust jacket. Jacket has some loss at the heel and a couple of corners, some separation at the front flap fold, a somewhat toned spine panel, and shadows from a couple of old tape reinforcements (now removed). The only early jacketed copy of Mrs. Belloc Lowndes' famous crime novel that we have ever encountered. Haycraft-Queen cornerstone. [Book #116228]
