London: George Routledge and Sons, 1874. Small quarto. First printing of this edition. First published in 1842 by Rudolph Ackerman in London. Thirty-five color illustrations by Henry Alken, all present. One page of ads at the rear. Marbled boards in half-bound red morocco leather, compartments, titles and designs all gilt, marbled endpapers, top page edges gilt, all other page edges rough cut. Very Good condition. Light shelfwear overall, corners lightly bumped, rear hinge split but not shaky, foxing throughout. Apperley's autobiographical narrative of his passion for fox-hunting, horse racing, and other sporting events, considered by many to be best sporting book of the 19th century. A very presentable copy.
