The Town and the City

New York: Harcourt, Brace, 1950. First Edition. SIGNED by the author as "John Kerouac" (indicating an early signature) on the front endpaper. Publisher's red cloth with titles and designs in gilt. Near Fine in a strong Very Good plus dust jacket. A few bumps to the extremities, front hinge just barely starting. Jacket is quite fresh, lightly nicked and rubbed at the extremities, with a tiny stray ink mark on the spine (not obscuring text). Author’s first book, written in a style heavily influenced by Thomas Wolfe, detailing his earliest associations with fellow Beats Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, and Lucien Carr, and preceding his second novel, the iconic "On the Road," by seven years. In a custom quarter-leather clamshell box with marbled boards. [Book #119599]
