The film version of "Our Miss Brooks" capped several years of a very successful run with the same character, at first on the radio (1948-1955), then on television (1952-1955), with Eve Arden starring as the title character in nearly all its episodes. Arden's "Miss Brooks" is an English teacher at a midwest high school, an interestingly feminist character stuck in the mid-1950s, who remains steadfastly single but is still charming and with a barbed wit, placing the control of her classroom ahead of all things--though she does secretly pine for the biology teacher Mr. Boynton.
