New York: Harper and Brothers, 1949. First Edition. Very Good plus in a Very Good example of the scarce dust jacket. Spine sligtly cocked, owner name to front endpaper, a few splashes to bottom corners and bottom page edges, and a hint of foxing to the endpapers and top page edges. Jacket has chipping and a few inch-long closed tears at the extremities, shallow creasing, and a few splashes, largely affecting the verso. Illustrated with thirty pen drawings by Garth Williams, known best for his work in "Charlotte's Web" and "Stuart Little." An attractive copy of this book, based on the author's own Bantam hens.
