London: Beaver Films, 1961. Original six-sheet poster for the 1961 film. A classic of 1960s British cinema, based on Mary Hayley Bell's 1959 novel, featuring the debut of Ms. Bell's daughter, Hayley Mills, who would go on to become a very successful actress both as a child and an adult. Also the debut of noted British film director Bryan Forbes. Shot in striking black-and-white widescreen format, "Whistle Down the Wind" is an allegorical story about a small group of children who discover a drifter living in a barn, and through conversational chance decide that he is Jesus. He does not dispute the fact, and rumor of his residence begins to spread throughout the town. A spectacular poster design, with Mills' arresting gaze--somewhere between innocence and corruption--as a centerpiece. 81 x 81 inches, folded, Very Good plus overall. [Book #121665]
