Burbank, CA: Walt Disney Productions, 1969. First Draft script for the 1971 film, dated nearly two years prior to its Fall 1971 release. Brief holograph pencil notations to a few pages regarding locations and historical accuracy. A very Brit-centric Disney classic based on Mary Norton's children's story (and here under a working title that reflects that of her book), filmed on location in Dorset, England. Less heralded today, but nonetheless a standout Disney film of its day, combining live action and animation to tell the story of an apprentice witch, three children, and a conman who seek to use magic in the defense of Britain during World War II. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and nominated for 4 others.
Orange studio wrappers, noted as First Draft Screenplay on the front wrapper, dated March 14, 1969, with credits for screenwriters Bill Walsh and Don DaGradi, as well as songwriters Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, and with a bold credit for Walt Disney productions. 149 leaves, mimeograph, with all pages dated between 2/13/69 and 3/12/69. Pages and wrapper Very Good plus, bound with two gold brads. [Book #122124]
