Culver City, CA: Sage Western Productions / Columbia, 1957. First Estimating Draft script for the 1958 film noir. One of the weirdest and most wonderful of the Columbia B-noirs, a very faithful adaptation of Fredric Brown's byzantine novel, with Anita Ekberg (pre-"La Dolce Vita") put to good use as a dancing siren, and the Red Norvo Trio performing icy strains of modern jazz both live and in the soundtrack. Light blue studio wrappers, noted as 1ST ESTIMATING DRAFT on the front wrapper, with credits for both Sage Western Pictures and Columbia Pictures, dated June 14, 1957. Title page present, with a credit for screenwriter Robert Blees. 123 leaves, eye-rest green stock, mimeograph, with yellow revision pages throughout, dated variously between June 24, 1957 and June 26, 1957. Pages and wrapper Near Fine, bound with two gold brads. Selby 344. Silver, Ward, Ursini, Porfirio (2010), p. 257. Spicer (2010), p. 418. [Book #122578]
