The Moving Target

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1949. First Edition. INSCRIBED "To -- -- / Carol's brother and therefore my friend. / Kenneth Millar (John Macdonald)." Basis for the 1966 film, "Harper," starring Paul Newman in the (renamed) title role as Macdonald's grim protagonist.

Fine in a fresh and colorful, Near Fine dust jacket. Publisher's price of $2.50 present on the front flap. Book is Fine and unread, with a rich red topstain. Jacket shows no trace of the usual fading to the red coloring, with only a few short closed tears and associated shallow creases to note. Housed in a red custom clamshell box with a green leather spine label. The first Lew Archer novel, a Haycraft-Queen cornerstone, and a key title in any crime fiction library.
