Original candid photograph of Roman Polanski, Jean-luc Godard, and Catherine Deneuve at Cannes, 1965

Paris: Claude Schwartz, 1965. Vintage silver gelatin photograph of Roman Polanski, Jean-luc Godard and actress Catherine Deneuve at Cannes in May 1965, taken by French press and still photographer Claude Schwartz. With Schwartz's French press stamp appearing 5 times on the verso. Arguably the tall man in the background is Barbet Schroeder.

Polanski's 1965 film, "Repulsion," a film that had much to do with Ms. Deneuve's impending fame, made its world premiere at this festival.

In 1964, Ms. Deneuve appeared in "Les plus belles escroqueries du monde" ["The Beautiful Swindlers"], an omnibus of grifting stories, shot on location in Tokyo, Paris, Italy, and Amsterdam by Polanski, Godard, Claude Chabrol, Ugo Gregoretti, and Hiromichi Horikawa. Deneuve starred as a lovely swindler in Chabrol's segment, "L'Homme qui vendit la Tour Eiffel."
