San Francisco: Canyon Cinema, 1958. Original 16mm print of the 1958 short film. In the original metal canister, with title label affixed to the lid.
An iconic experimental film, Conner's first, composed entirely of found footage spliced together from B-movies, newsreels, soft-core pornography, and other sources, with the director's name and the film title repeated erratically throughout. One of the first films to turn the medium in on itself, juxtaposing distinct, unrelated images to examine themes of war, violence, and social conformity in post-War America.
"A Movie" became the template for a series of non-narrative experimental films by Connor, and indeed, a conceptual template used by filmmakers ever since. Selected by the National Film Registry in 1994.
Celluloid and reel in Near Fine condition. Metal canister Very Good plus.
