Portrait of Jennie

|
Los Angeles, CA: Vanguard Films, 1948. Collection of 113 vintage black-and-white still photographs from the 1948 film.
A massive collection of stills representing one of the greatest melodramas of the late 1940s. Painstakingly developed by Selznick Releasing Organization and then sold to Vanguard Pictures (to whom Selznick International was sold),"Portrait of Jennie" is a romantic fantasy so strange and concept-driven that it has always eluded mass popularity. Joseph Cotten portrays a struggling artist who becomes enamored--and then obsessed--with a little girl named Jennie who inexplicably begins to grow to womanhood over a period of weeks.
The still set, due to its thoroughness and quality, represents virtually every aspect of the film, and evokes its noirish but crisp look, showing Joseph Cotten at his peak, in a performance that in our opinion rivals his role in "The Third Man" the year following.
Silver gelatin prints, all 8 x 10 inches and all with a David O. Selznick credit at the bottom margin. Most of the stills are Near Fine or better, but a handful with a tiny closed tear or two at the white margin.
