Arguably Jean-Pierre Melville's crowning achievement (though we feel there are no low points among his films), wherein Delon plays an icy hitman who is utterly anonymous, living alone in a single bedroom apartment with only a small bird in a cage for company. Things are going swimmingly, at which point he meets a woman.
