Greene, Graham and Ronald Matthews writing as Sheila Cousins
To Beg I am Ashamed
London: Routledge, 1938. First Edition. A fictitious "autobiography" of a London prostitute, written by Greene and Matthews under a pseudonym to avoid political scandal. The book was withdrawn from the market by the publisher after warnings were issued by various moralistic institutions in England, and the first edition remains very scarce. The extent of Greene's involvement in the authorship has never been fully ascertained.
Near Fine lacking dust jacket. Slightest vertical crease to spine, else a superb copy, tight and clean. [Book #72631]
