The Collected Stories of Ben Hecht
|
|
New York: Crown, 1945. First Edition. Fine in a Very Good plus dust jacket. Jacket has several nicks at the extremities, and a single chip at one corner of the crown (no lettering affected); quite bright overall. The only appearance in print of Hecht's short story, "Specter of the Rose," which is the basis for the bizarre 1946 film noir. "Specter of the Rose" was the only film in Hecht's career for which he had the sole directorial credit, and the resulting film is an overlooked gem that in many ways seems an influence for "The Red Shoes." Not to be confused with the later Crown collection of Hecht's writings titled "A Treasury of Ben Hecht: Collected Stories and Other Writings," published in 1959. Introductory notes by the author. Very scarce in dust jacket. [Book #99068]
