Autograph letter signed from Agatha Christie to Billy Wilder, regarding Wilder's 1958 film version of "Witness for the Prosecution." Executed on Ms. Christie's personal stationery, with her South Devon address printed at the top right. Superb content--and perhaps the author's only written communication with Wilder--in which Christie assures the director about how much she enjoyed his 1958 film adaptation of her 1948 short story (reworked for the stage in 1953). The letter is dated December 11th (no year, but presumably between 1958-1961), and reads: Dear Billy Wilder, Larry Bachman tells me that you never heard whether I liked your picture Witness for the Prosecution. Well--I did [underlined twice]. What's more--I enjoyed [underlined once] it--a thing I never suspected to when seeing a film made from one of my books! You did a wonderful job and I admire that film very much still. Most people do. So let me make amends. Yours, Agatha Christie." 5 x 7 inches, one leaf, executed on both the recto and the verso of the leaf. Wilder's film is today considered one of his best, and is arguably the best Christie adaptation ever put to celluloid. In a custom quarter-leather clamshell box. [Book #107601]
