The Problems of Lasting Peace

Garden City: Doubleday, Doran, 1942. First Edition. INSCRIBED by President Herbert Hoover on the front endpaper to Alvan Markle, Jr., and additionally signed by the book's co-author Hugh Gibson (in the same ink) just below Hoover's inscription, which reads: "To Alvan Markle, Jr. / With good wishes of Herbert Hoover and [signed separately] Hugh Gibson." Markle's ownership signature and date (1942) are at the top of the same page, and his bookplate is on the front pastedown.

Markle was a Pennsylvania banker and financier, president of the Markle Bank and the financial firm Markle and Brothers. Fine and perhaps unread in a Very Good plus dust jacket. Jacket is lightly worn, with rubbing at some corners and folds, and a few tiny closed tears. A very presentable copy.
