Universal City, CA: Universal City Studios, 1983. Revised First Draft script for the 1985 film.

Based on the 1983 novel by Elmore Leonard. An ex-car thief trying to turn his life around ends up witness to his friend's murder. While he wants to find love and spend more time with his daughter, the men who killed his friend kidnap his daughter, sending him on a mission to save his daughter and avenge his friend. One of only a few screenplays adapted by Leonard from one of his own novels, made memorable in that it layers a surprisingly complex plot onto what by 1985 had become a pretty standard sub-genre: the Burt Reynolds revenge thriller.

Shot on location in California and Florida.
