Philadelphia: The Jewish Publication Society, 1987. UNCORRECTED PROOF, preceding the First Edition. INSCRIBED by Roth on the half-title page: "For the Holtzman Library / Henry Roth / Chez nous." Also INSCRIBED by Materassi on the half-title verso: "For the Holtzman Library / In grateful appreciation for making this book possible / Mario Materassi / NYC 7-2-06."
Toby Holtzman was a noted bibliophile and scholar, specializing in works by Jewish authors. Laid in is a typed letter signed by the executive vice president of the Jewish Publication Society, addressed to a representative at The Village Voice, dated 1987. The letter announces publication of Roth's new book and requests a review.
Very Good plus in yellow trade-size wrappers. One leaf with a vertical crease, slight spine lean, spine slightly faded. Quite uncommon, rarely found signed by both Roth and Materassi.
