Rome: Titanus, 1963. Vintage photograph from the 1963 film. A shot of Visconti working with actress Rina Morelli on the set, the former with a bellows and the latter with a parasol. With remarkable provenance as to photograph's vintage on the verso: a rubber-stamped coat of arms made for the film, the Pathe-Titanus productions stamp (the film was an Italy-France co-production), and a stamp for Parimage, a French press agency.
A lovely, candid moment from Visconti's classic homage to the Sicilian aristocracy of the mid-nineteenth century. Certainly, too, the apex of Claudia Cardinale's work in auteur cinema.
