Hulme, Manchester: Factory Records, 1979. Evocative original poster advertising a performance by Joy Division at the Factory in Hulme, Manchester, on July 13, 1979. The show was the band's first performance at the now-legendary club, following the release of their first LP, "Unknown Pleasures," in 1979.
Accompanying the poster is a typed letter signed, dated 2008, with detailed provenance, by the poster's designer Jon Savage. Savage notes that the performance was recorded, and appears in part on the recent "Heart and Soul" box set, and in full on the latest Warner Brothers reissues of "Unknown Pleasures."
Savage also notes that only a few hundred poster were printed up, and nearly all of them were fly-posted around Manchester. The poster has been reproduced in Savage's book, "England's Dreaming: Sex Pistols and Punk Rock," and in Rob Gretton's memoir, "Top Class Manager."
