Jessie Cates, an epileptic and unemployed mother of a troubled son, lives comfortably but dispirited, in a small country house with her aging widowed mother, Thelma. Over the course of the evening Jessie reveals to her mother her resolute, well-considered intent to end her life by morning. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
