New York: William Sloane Associates, 1960. Second printing. INSCRIBED by the author to Robert Kennedy and his wife: "To Ethel and Bob Kennedy / With fond memories of the cold of Wisconsin and the rains of West Virginia. / Teddy / Theodore H. White."
A wonderful association. White spent a great deal of 1959 and 1960 in the company of Robert Kennedy in the process of writing his nonfiction book, "The Making of the President: 1960," published the in 1961. The book famously documented John F. Kennedy's road to the presidency, and won the Pulitzer Prize. This novel, published the year before and making the rounds while White worked with the Kennedy clan, was given by him to the couple during their time together.
"The View from the Fortieth Floor" is the story of a publisher's struggle to save his failing magazines without losing his honor and integrity.
Very Good in a Good to Very Good dust jacket. Book has a slight lean, with cloth lightly faded and rubbed. Jacket is chipped at the corners and moderately soiled, with some silverfish damage at the bottom half of the front flap fold.
Accompanying the book, as reference, is a non-inscribed later printing of "The Making of the Presidency: 1960," in Near Fine condition.
