Satyajit Ray

Lausanne, Switzerland: Editions L'Age D'Homme, 1981. First Edition, a trade softcover original. INSCRIBED by Satyajit Ray on the half title page: "For Pierre Goulliard / Satyajit Ray / 1/4/83."

Ray's contribution to twentieth century cinema is inestimable, and brought the reality of Indian culture to the world by way of gifted visual storytelling and directorial genius. He only visited America once, and after a miserable and brief experience in Hollywood, left and never returned. His signature is rare, this being the first signed or inscribed material relating to his cinema work we have encountered.

From the collection of noted cinephile and collector Pierre Goulliard, who spent decades in the latter half of the twentieth century obtaining inscriptions from the giants of European cinema.

Very Good plus in wrappers. Light toning to the edges and the spine, light rubbing to the edges. Text in French, photo illustrated throughout.
