Laid in is a typed letter signed by the author, on stationery from Skidmore College where Millauser teaches English, addressed to Oscar-winning director, actor, and producer Tony Bill. The letter (dated Nov. 4, 1995) expresses Millhauser's thanks for the letter he received from Tony Bill regarding his novel, "Edwin Mullhouse," with some insight into the author's relationship with Hollywood.

Millhauser won the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel, "Martin Dressler: The Tale of an American Dreamer."

From the collection of Tony Bill, whose credits include "The Sting" (1973, producer), "Soldier in the Rain" (1963, actor), "Shampoo" (1975, actor), and "Five Corners" (1987, director-producer).
