Over the Hill

Los Angeles: Fox Film Corporation, 1931. Tentative Final script for the 1931 film. Remake of the 1920 silent film "Over the Hill to the Poorhouse," directed by Harry Millarde and starring Mary Carr and a number of her children. Based on a poem by Will Carleton.

"Over the Hill" is the saccharine tale of a woman whose large brood of children grows up and leaves home, at which point she struggles to find a place for herself in the world. Set in small town America, shot on location in California.

Pale green studio wrappers, noted as TENTATIVE VERSION on the front wrapper, marked copy No. 700-4, dated 3-18-31 but struck through in holograph pencil, with credits for poet Carleton and screenwriter Furthman. Title page integral with the first page of the script, with credits for poet Carleton and screenwriter Furthman. 145 leaves, mimeograph duplication. Pages about Fine, wrapper Near Fine bound with two gold brads.
