Based on the 1949 novel by A.B. Guthrie, Jr., about a former senator who leads a wagon train along the Oregon Trail. William Tadlock (Douglas) leads settles to Oregon, but his leadership gets the best of him, and his followers dissent.

Shot on location in Arizona and Oregon.
