Sweden: Cinematograph AB, 1973. Three vintage photographs from the set of the 1973 six-part Swedish television mini-series, "Scenes from a Marriage," written and directed by Ingmar Bergman. All photos feature director Ingmar Bergman, cinematographer Sven Nykvist, Liv Ullman, and Erland Josephson on the set, gesticulating over scripts. Early photocopy snipe cello-taped to the verso, alongside photographer's rubber stamp, and pink Keystone photo agency sticker.
A cinematographically hyper-realist look at the turgid relationship between Marianne (Ullmann) and Johan (Josephson) as they navigate matrimony, infidelity, divorce, and subsequent partners. Originally released as a six episode mini-series, the series was recut by Bergman into a 167 minute theatrical version for the international market, where it proved a successful and influential film in its own right. Released by The Criterion Collection in both the three-hour US theatrical cut, and the director's original five-hour, six-part television version.
