A remake of Richard Thorpe's 1937 film noir antecedent, based on Emlyn Williams' Broadway play that opened in 1936 and ran for 64 performances. Mrs. Bramson (Washbourne) is a crotchety old lady who hires a handyman (Finney) to help around her isolated estate. The handyman is attractive and engaging, but Olivia (Hampshire), Mrs. Branson's daughter, is suspicious of his motives.
