Based on Goudge's 1944 novel, "Green Dolphin Country." Love interest upon love interest gathers in the English Channel and New Zealand in the 19th century, with Donna Reed, Lana Turner, Edmund Gwenn and Richard Hart "having a go of it." Van Heflin plays a carpenter who kills a man for love's sake and flees.

Winner of an Academy Award.
