All That Jazz

Culver City, CA: Columbia Pictures, 1978. Vintage US one sheet poster for the 1978 US film. Winner of four Academy Awards.

Often compared to Fellini's cinematic masterpiece "8 1/2," "All That Jazz" provides a comprehensive look into the tortured personal life of a highly successful entertainer. Forced to contend with his nearing mortality and confined to a hospital bed following a heart attack, director Joe Gideon drifts through hallucinations and memories laced with musical numbers and theatrical routines. Based on director Bob Fosse's personal experience in show business, and credited by Fosse as having been loosely inspired by Hilma Wolitzer's 1974 novel "Ending" as well. Winner of four Academy Awards in total and was nominated for another five.
