Ernie Pyle (Meredith) is a journalist who enlists in the US Army during WWII. During his tour of duty in Africa and Italy, he documents the effects of war on the human condition, illuminating catastrophe, the consequences of combat, and new partnerships in times of crisis, all from a first-person narrative. The real Pyle won a Pulitzer Prize in 1944 for his war correspondence.
Nominated for four Academy Awards.
