Institute Benjamenta, or This Dream that One Calls Human Life

London: Koninck Studios, 1995. Vintage British poster for the 1995 film.

The first of two full-length live action films directed by the Quay Brothers, the sibling duo best known for their surrealistic stop-motion animations. The film is steeped in the heavily dreamlike aesthetic that has come to define much of their work. It has been likened stylistically to David Lynch's breakout film "Eraserhead," as well as to Expressionist films of the early twentieth century.

Based on Robert Walser's novel, "Jakob Von Gunten," it follows the story of a young man attending an institute for servants run by the eerie Benjamenta siblings.

15 x 20 inches (38 x 51 cm), folded. Near Fine.
