Postcards From the Edge

Culver City, CA: Columbia Pictures, 1989. Draft script for the 1990 film based on Carrie Fisher's semi-autobiographical novel of the same title that she has here adapted for the screen.

A comedic account on the pressures of Hollywood, in which an actress daughter returns to her actress mother's home while recovering from a drug overdose. Upon its release, the film produced an inevitable debate over how much of the story was derived from Fisher's own experiences and relationship with her mother Debbie Reynolds. Reynolds originally wanted to play the character of the mother, Doris, but Nichols cast Shirley MacLaine for the part instead. Nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Actress.

Set in Los Angeles, and shot on location there.
