The first and only on-screen pairing of husband and wife team Al Jolson and Ruby Keeler, an unusual blend of musical and crime drama in which Jolson plays a down-and-out Broadway star who gets mixed up with a mobster when trying to get money to start his own club. Due to Jolson's legendary competitive ego, he would refuse to work with his wife on any future films, though her star was rising as his fell. They would divorce by 1940. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Dance Direction.
