A deeply conservative judge becomes the first woman to be appointed to the US Supreme Court, leading to a friendly rivalry with an older, liberal associate justice. Basis for the 1981 film directed by Ronald Neame.

The play ran at the Majestic Theatre from October 3 to November 12, 1978, and at the ANTA Playhouse from November 14 to December 9, 1978, for a grand total of 79 performances.
