Based on the riveting diaries of Anais Nin, twentieth century French erotic writer. The film explores the complex relationship between Nin (Maria de Medeiros), American writer Henry Miller (Fred Ward), and his seductive wife, June (Uma Thurman). It was the first film to receive the NC-17 rating from MPAA, and was nominated for an Academy Award for best cinematography.
