Based on Richard Hughes' 1929 novel "A High Wind in Jamaica, Or, the Innocent Voyage." Writer Paul Osborn was a prolific writer for screen and stage, and is best remembered today for his 1955 film adaptation of "East of Eden," starring James Dean.

The play premiered at the Belasco Theatre in New York City November 14, 1943, running for a total of 40 performances before closing on December 18, 1943.
