The Net

Culver City, CA: Columbia Pictures, 1994. Draft script for the 1994 film.

One of the first major thrillers to exploit criminal use of the Internet, and in particular Internet hacking, which was then just emerging as a concept at the popular level. Sandra Bullock stars as a computer programmer who realizes that she has come into possession of software able to view secret government information. She goes to Mexico on vacation to find that she is wanted by the police, and that her identity erased. A high-tech thriller in the Hitchcockian tradition, from an era in which the Internet had a mysterious cultural cache.

Set in Mexico and California, shot on location in California and Washington DC.
