A collection of previously published short stories, with the title story being the basis for the 1927 silent film about a boxer conflicted about joining the fight in World War I, directed by Alfred Santell, and starring Richard Barthelmess, Molly O'Day, and Lawford Davidson. Bathelmess received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his role in the film.

Very Good Plus in a Very Good Plus dust jacket. Owner name and date (1928) on front endpaper, Slight lean, a hint of foxing, faint fading to lower front board edge. Jacket with brief dampstain to top front edge, small chips and tears at the extremities, similar hint of foxing.
