Hoskins stars as a recently released ex-con hired to drive a high class escort from job to job, slowly falling in love with her as he does, which leads trouble for them both. Hoskins won Best Actor at Cannes, where the film was also nominated for the Palme d'Or, and was nominated for an Academy Award, losing to Paul Newman in "The Color of Money."
