Based on Dos Passos' U.S.A. trilogy of novels written between 1930 and 1937, turned dramatic revue by Paul Shyre and John Dos Passos. Shyre's adaptation consists of three actors and three actresses portraying a total of some thirty-odd characters with minimal set and stark lighting. U.S.A. looks at America from the Spanish-American War to the beginning of the Depression portraying the everyday situations faced by characters with special attention to the social and economic forces that drive them. Dos Passos later wrote the screenplay for the 1971 television movie adaptation.
