Dizzy Gillespie began recording what would become "The Great Blue Star Sessions 1952-1953" on March 25th, 1952 at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees. These recordings captured Gillespie during the transitional period when he was merging out of a bebop sound into hard bop, big band stylings.
