Jim Burton (Richard Egan) has become a heavy alcoholic since his young daughter died. His wife Ellen (Julie London) has to take care of him and his doctor has warned him that his drinking and depression could lead to severe mental illness. He meets William Tobin (Arthur O'Connell), also an alcoholic, and the two of them find that they help themselves by helping each other, eventually they form a group like Alcoholics Anonymous .
