Based on Waugh's debut novel "Decline and Fall" (1928). Paul Pennyfeather (Phillips) is unjustly dismissed from Oxford University for indecent behavior, and finds employment at a boys' private school in Wales, where he meets Margot (Page). The two are set to married until Paul is arrested for involvement in Margot's white slavery operation.
