William Friedkin made his name with this gritty adaptation of Robin Moore's non-fiction account of east coast drug trafficking. Perhaps the greatest of the many 1970s crime films that were shot on location in New York City, with glorious period detail in nearly every frame. Winner of five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.
