Basis for the 1976 supernatural horror film directed by Dan Curtis, and starring Karen Black, Oliver Reed, Burgess Meredith, and Betty Davis. The book was reprinted three times, one being a film tie-in by Dell, and both book and film feature elements of the supernatural, a possessed house, and an odd old lady at the top of the stairs.
